Beginning Quilting

Learn to quilt from beginning to end! If you're comfortable with using a sewing machine, but would love to learn how to quilt, then this class is for you! You will make a baby- or lap-size quilt.

You will be introduced to rotary cutting, block assembly, borders and binding, and quilting by machine. Each session will take you through a new set of skills, all while being guided by an experienced quilter. In addition, you will learn a number of tips and tricks along the way. By the end of this 8-session class you will have a completed quilt. There is an optional 9th session, where you are invited to come back to the shop for show-and-tell to showcase your beautiful finished quilt.

All fabrics must be purchased from the Fiber Lab. There is a 10% discount on class supplies. A supply list will be provided during the first class session.

We will start rotary cutting in the first class so you will not need to bring your machine to that class.

Before the First Class:

• Bring any rulers and rotary cutters that you already own to the first class. Do not go and buy any before class. You can test out ours before deciding which you would like to purchase.
• A 3-Ring Binder and 30 page protectors
• Notebook paper and pencil
• Sticky notes (optional)

Additional Notes:

• You must provide your own sewing machine.
• Optional: If you have one, bring a 1⁄4” or scant 1/4" foot for your machine before the second class. A regular presser foot will also work.
• If your machine hasn’t been serviced in a while and is making clunking or other abnormal noises, or the tension is funky, take it in for service before you start. A well maintained machine will make piecing so much easier

Register early. Classes with fewer than 3 registrations, 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of class will be canceled. Students will be notified if a class is cancelled, and the registration fee will be refunded.
