Quilting Basics
Would you like to learn how to quilt, but don't know a jelly roll from a log cabin? If you have basic sewing skills and know how to use a sewing machine, but are unsure where to start, then this class is for you.
This class is highly recommended if you are thinking about taking the Beginning Quilting class. You can also take it as a stand-alone class.
This class meets once.
What You Will Learn
- Quilting vocabulary (yes, quilting has a language all its own)
- What types of fabrics to use for quilting
- Names of different types of pre-cut fabrics available (squares, strips, etc.)
- Notions needed for quilting, such as pins, needles, and measuring
- Overview of types of rulers
- How to use a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat
- How to measure fabric
- How to set up your sewing machine for a scant 1/4" seam allowance. This will set you up for successful quilting!
- How to properly press your fabrics and seams
Note: We will not be sewing, but we will be showing you how to set up your machine for a scant 1/4" seam allowance, so please bring your sewing machine.
Register early. Classes with fewer than 3 registrations, 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of class will be canceled. Students will be notified if a class is cancelled, and the registration fee will be refunded.

Skill Details: | Must have basic sewing skills, including knowing how to use your sewing machine, change the length of your stitches, wind a bobbin and insert it into your machine, how to thread your machine, and adjust the tension. |
