Spellbound Witch's Hat

Every witch needs their own hat. Join us in creating a whimsical and enchanting witch's hat for Halloween — or for everyday wear! The pattern has three versions, but for class you may choose from the following two:  

1. Patchwork Quilted Hat
2. Solid Quilted Hat

You'll learn how to work with foam to add structure and shape. We’ll also be working with bias binding to create a decorative and polished edge of our hat and to cover raw edges. You can also have some fun with quilting. 

This is a beginner friendly project. We'll guide you through any of the more challenging bits.

Materials Needed for Both Versions:

• Spellbound Witch Hat pattern
• 1 fat quarter up to 1/2 yd for sash. Wide wired ribbon or fake flowers are also a fun options.
• 1 yd package of Soft and Stable
• 3/4 yd Decor Bond

Materials for Patchwork Version:

• 3/4 yard TOTAL fabric in various prints cut into 2-1/2" wide strips. You need approximately eight 2-1/2" x WOF strips of fabric.
• 1 fat quarter for brim bias binding
• 3/4 yd for hat lining
• 1 fat quarter for lining bias binding

Materials for Solid Version:

• 3/4 yd or 1-1/2 yds if using directional fabric for top and brim
• 1 fat quarter for brim bias binding
• 3/4 yd for hat lining
• 1 fat quarter for lining bias binding

Additional Supplies:

• Erasable marking pen
• Ruler
• Rotary Cutter
• Matching Thread
• Scissors
• Pins or sewing clips
• Basting spray

Note: You must bring your own sewing machine.

Stop in early to choose your fabrics and get and any other supplies you may need. The Fiber Lab offers a 15% discount on class supplies.

Register early. Classes with fewer than 3 registrations, 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of class will be canceled. Students will be notified if a class is cancelled, and the registration fee will be refunded.
