Beginning Sewing
Ready to learn to sew? This beginner-friendly class is the perfect place to start! You will learn the fundamentals of using a sewing machine while creating two practical projects — a set of reversible Four-Fold Coasters and a quilted Potholder.
Whether you've never touched a sewing machine or just need a refresher, this fun, relaxed class will give you a solid foundation and projects you'll be proud to use or give as gifts!
What you will learn:
- Operate your sewing machine
- Basic sewing terms
- Supplies and tools you will need
- Fundamentals of fabric, including choosing suitable fabrics for your project
- Measuring and cutting
- Maintain an accurate seam allowance
- Proper pressing and ironing techniques
- Pinning and fabric control
By the end of class, you'll leave with beautiful handmade coasters, a functional potholder, and the confidence to begin your next sewing project.
What to Bring:
- Sewing machine in good working order
- Machine manual (if you have it)
- Fabric scissors or rotary cutter
- Straight pins or sewing clips
- Seam ripper
- 1/4 yard of two contrasting fabrics (quilting cotton)
- Coordinating thread
Fiber Lab will provide batting for the potholder and coasters
Stop in early to choose your fabrics and get and any other supplies you may need. The Fiber Lab offers a 15% discount on class supplies.
Register early. Classes with fewer than 3 registrations, 72 hours (3 days) prior to the start of class will be canceled. Students will be notified if a class is cancelled, and the registration fee will be refunded.
